Smith + VPC = Oddfellows

Here is a combo we didn’t predict when we compiled our list of proposed neighborhood joint ventures. Smith’s Linda Derschang and Volunteer Park Cafe’s Erika Burke are combining forces on a new cafe down on 10th Ave around the corner from the Pike/Pine corridor. Joint will be in the old Oddfellows building and will be called, yes, Oddfellows. It’s also the former location of the Freehold Theater so the Slog commentary is predictably bitter about the gentrifying project. Given the recent concerns about fostering the arts in a rapidly changing area of the city, it’s a little surprising to see these two step into such a symbolic hornet’s nest. Apparently, the opportunity was too good to pass up.

Wow, sounds like another great restaurant to hit the neighborhood. Seattle Magazine wrote Jerry Traunfeld of Herbfarm farm is opening up a restaurant on the fringes of the Hill soon. Lots of great food options popping up here.
