Team responsible for Hill light rail big dig announced

Now that you know more about the digging and truck traffic that is going to start next year -- Coming light rail construction: 7 things to know -- it's time to meet the people who will be doing that digging.

A joint venture of super huge contractors CH2M Hill (who, like most big contractors, has made a disgusting amount of money in Iraq and Afghanistan) and Jacobs Engineering (who, unlike most big contractors, hasn't directly made a penny in Iraq or Afghanistan) announced they'll be handling the construction of the $1.6 billion light rail University link including our very own Capitol Hill station:

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Kevin McMahon stated, "We are delighted to be selected for this critical extension of the light rail system serving Seattle. We have been providing high quality construction management services on large diameter tunnels in the Puget Sound area for some time now and are committed to leveraging our resources to help Sound Transit meet the challenges of this exciting project and enhance the quality of life for the residents of the region."

Jacobs, with over 55,000 employees and revenues exceeding $9.0 billion, provides technical, professional, and construction services globally.

As we have seen in a recent example, the people on the ground have a lot to do with the impact a large projects makes on a community. Hopefully, Jacobs and CH2M earn their cash.
