I also saw (what I thought was) an art installation of (what I thought were) about 30 tiny surveillance cameras on sticks, about head height, each would swivel every 10 seconds or so. I thought they were pretty effective and they were definitely in a visible location with a lot of people around. It was in the little public area on the 2nd ave side of Benaroya Hall downtown. I didn't stop so I didn't really get a good look but I'm pretty sure that's what they were.
One of my counterparts on the council is looking into taking some kind of action against the cameras but I'm not sure it will fly. You can read more about Charlette's thoughts here. Not sure what status of her proposal is but you should come to the next council meeting on Thursday night if you are interested. CHCC Public Meeting — August WHEN: Thursday, August 21, from 7pm-9pm WHERE: Room 3211 at Seattle Central Community College, 1701 Broadway
