This Sunday the 24th, some of the streets in and around Volunteer Park will be closed to cars as part of the city's Car Free Day.

Volunteer Park and 14th Avenue East. From noon  to 6 p.m. 14th Avenue East from Volunteer Park to East Republican Street will be closed to cars. The Volunteer Park Western Loop will also be car-free.

According to Google Maps, that's a whopping 512 feet of closed roadway on 14th Ave E.

Here are a few things we suggest you do with that space on Sunday -- if you're not out of town, that is.

Volunteer Park Car Free Day Suggested Uses

  • 170-yard sprint
  • roller hockey
  • BOB stroller drag races
  • jay-walking practice
  • pothole maintenance
