All politics is local - Capitol Hill Seattle style

One of my favorite things about this presidential election is the homecooked enthusiasm for Barack Obama and, I'll concede, Sarah Palin. Of course the political machines loom above everything but those hand-made Obama signs you see around the neighborhood are so goofy, they have to be authentic.

I'd like to bring this spirit of goofy but authentic enthusiasm to the site. Now is the time for all good neighbors to channel their inner creative designer and make a Capitol Hill-focused grassroots ad banner for your favorite candidate. I'll select the best and put them in rotation on the site. Here is my own fantastic creation:

Note how it starts off quite well with a not too shabby logo but degrades quickly with a sloppy, off-center slogan. That kind of well-intentioned but slightly shabby execution is grassroots. That is from the heart.

So fire up your paint programs and start designing. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Create a 468x60 image supporting your presidential team of choice. Do not use any images you don't have rights to. Your best bet is to work with the stuff available on the candidates' sites. You can find images to work with here: Team Obama | Team McCain
  2.  Upload your masterpiece to the CHS image repository and tell us about it by adding a link to the image in the comments on this post.
  3. I'll grab good stuff as it comes in and put it in rotation on the site along with our other ad inventory.
  4. If you see something you like in the comments, leave a star rating to help encourage its selection.
  5. Messages should be SFW and, if you're going to try to be funny, you better be really, really funny.
  6. I'll run the ads through Election Day.
  7. All ads will link to either barackobama.com or johnmccain.com as appropriate.
  8. Want to place an ad for a different political race or issue? Buy a CHS ad.

Great idea J ... here's mine. I'm surprised there's not a ton of these by now.

nooo
please don't run john mccain ads on this website, even if they're by a neighbor. :(

RE: nooo

RE: nooo
too late. i've already seen GOOG adsense serve up a few from the bad guys. Apparently Obama doesn't buy CPC advertising on neighborhood blogs :)

RE: nooo
okay okay. random google ads are different though!

here's my contribution of a super-authentic (ie, bad) grassroots gregoire ad. i'm a rulebreaker (not obama/mccain) so feel free not to run it, but i think WA is much more in danger of losing to dino rossi than losing to mccain. it seems a lot of obama voters are voting for rossi because he's had a much more effective ad campaign and people are losing sight of what issues they differ in.
