Jerks tag E. John space warrior princess

Some dipshit thought it would be cool to tag over the garage door space mural on E. John Street heading up the Hill toward 15th. The response to the vandalism is this "NO" sign and lots of Sharpie-written notes expressing sadness for the space warrior princess's passing.

Thanks a million to neighbor ERIK98122 for this contribution to the CHS flickr pool. Like Erik, we wonder. Will she return?

Boo

Awwww - shite!
That mural's been there for years completely unmolested.

If anybody ever finds out who the tagger was - I hope they freaking spray-paint him with about a dozen coats, then toss him nekkid into the middle of Broadway & John.

Intercourse!!!!
It's been slightly tagged in the past, but nothing major.

Murals in general seem to be spared by taggers: the Fratelli's Cows survived 20+ years without any abuse and only got tagged when it was clear that the building had been abandoned (I'm not sure how to classify the Ron Paul signs that were duct-taped onto the mural).

Cool
I like how the tagger drew the no smoking thing on the garage. Sweet.

RIP Space Princess
What a bunch of f@#$ers! We are losing enough CH landmarks to Brix and their ilk we don't need taggers doing the rest!

Disgusting
It was one thing when they were tagging street signs. Then they started victimizing Capitol Hill Cleaners regularly (and the SPD threatens the _cleaners_ while the taggers run free). Our building gets hit on a weekly basis now, as well, and the post office seems to get it at least 2-3 times a week.

But this is too goddamn much. Destroying art is totally out of bounds. It's not acceptable, by any standard. We need to stop the taggers. Whoever did this deserves jail time, not some slap on the wrist.

cool?
So, to be clear, the tagger sprayed something random over the mural and "the response" to the tagger was the "NO" sign, right?
In a community that actually supports artists (much more than other places in the U.S.) these taggers are just ruiners. In Chicago and NY there are some really good graffiti-artists. In Seattle there are lots of murals and outlets for artists. So, the ones who do this kind of garbage are not artists of any kind, just taggers -how lame.

KOMO
I talked to KOMO late this afternoon for a story about the mural that will probably run tonight. While I was being interviewed in front of the mural, the artist showed up to see what was going on -- glad the reporter actually got to talk to you, Shelly. Anyhow, sounds like Shelly will be working to replace the mural with a new work. Glad something good can come from the situation.

ugh.
I see that mural every day on my way to work - noticing it was defaced a couple of weeks ago for the first time really sucked. I'm surprised "they" have been fairly respectful towards not messing with it for so long but it only takes one idiot. TOY.
