Dilletante Wednesday

Cakes, etc. are in place tonight for some kind of private event. Sign says opens for business on Wednesday.

Also, btw and related only by location, El Tajin is out of business. Adios.

The one time I ate at El Tajin they chopped the veggies but *sort of* forgot to wash them and peel off the little stickers. Good riddance health code violators!

I think it is a mistake to open a restaurant on Broadway without a reasonable selection of vegetarian dishes. Tajin lacked this and so does the Spanish place which has replaced Magic Dragon (alas).

maybe it’s just as well… LOL about the stickers

Who knew? El Tajin deserved it’s own post!

Agree — are there any restaurants anywhere on Capitol Hill without good vegetarian options that have been around more than a couple months? That bbq place in the Magic Dragon spot will be out of business in months unless they fix their menu.

Their carne asada makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

I saw a sign in El Tajin’s window this past weekend that I thought said they were consolidating their space into the bar area (downsizing) and that they would re-open in a couple weeks. Just walked by today and no longer see this sign. Anyone else see this sign over the weekend? Perhaps their plans have changed.

It was seriously some of the most authentic Mexican food around in Seattle!! Like out of a grandma’s kitchen. The only source I knew of for specialities from Veracruz and the owner so KIND – treating you like a guest in his own home. A big big loss for my little corner of Capitol Hill.

Two things. The sign at El T says they’re not completely done. Their consolidating the bar into the restaurant side and will reopen in that space. Personally, I’m pleased as I thot their fare was better than the other B’way options.
Went to Dilletante for dessert last night. Not sure their concept of a dinner joint with a healthy dessert menu makes a whole lot of sense. Their service still needs a lot of work, which I can understand since it was only night 2. Then again, the service at the old place sucked too. But for those that want meatloaf followed by a big piece of pie, we now have that option.

is that sign back? I saw a sign that said same thing two weeks ago. Last week it disappeared and, then, so did what was left of El Tajin.

To all of you who dined at El Tajin, I appologize for closing the doors. We opened El Tajin with the purpose of bringing back the Mexican home cooking many of us (Mexicans) who migrated to the U.S. crave. Our goal was to provide the best Mexican delicacies in Seattle, but unfortunately the timing for this terrible economy and the lack of resources pushed us to close. The restaurant business is a tuff business when there is not enough clientale and for those who become regular clients, I thank you for your loyalty, and also for those who might of had a bad experience at El Tajin, I appologize as well. I really enjoyed serving you my family’s recipes. Have a great life and keep supporting your favorite restaurants, they need you more than ever.

Sincerely,

El Tajin.

Just talked to Luis on the phone to verify this was his message. He confirms. I’ll post more about it later this week.
