Lowell on the Seattle school chopping block

TT Minor, too. Here's the official FAQ on recommendations for closures to be discussed over the next few months. West Seattle Blog is attending tonight's meeting announcing the recommendations and reports that Lowell's closure is due to issues with building and decision to mainstream the Accelerated Progress Program kids.

NOVA moves to Meany
From West Seattle Blog: "Here are all the recommendations as fast as we can type: First one, on Queen Anne: Meany Middle School program “discontinued,” "

Later: "close Mann building, relocate Nova to Meany, relocate Meany to other middle schools depending on home addresses."

(The Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center is also relocated to Meany.)

Comment: the Mann building (home of NOVA alternative high school for ever) is just north of Garfield Community Center. Both Nova and Garfield High School students take classes at both Nova and Garfield (orchestra especially, and my daughter took many Nova classes). This will make life difficult for them.

RE: Proposed school changes in 1 map!
Oh boy. Infographics. So, I guess this is good news for Meany in that influx of students will mean resources and investment in the campus. Parents?

Of course, NOVA is the "bad kid" school right? I've seen some of the NOVA students -- the black t-shirt hard-rock kid look will never die.
