With all the snow craziness, New Year's Eve kind of snuck up on us here at CHS. You too? Long, long time ago, New Year's meant expectations for the greatest party night of my life. Now I'm most satisfied by a good meal. Here's a selection of Capitol Hill NYE celebrations that appeal to the more thoughtful, quiet, fat me. We'll leave the lean party scene to the skinny over at cap to the hill. You can find out what your gay friends are up to at GSS's Gay Seattle New Year's 2009. Also, feel free to add your plans in the comments -- the more, the merrier, no?
The Hopvine Pub
Comfy Hopvine is celebrating with an open-mic showcase. $5 cover includes champagne (at the Hop?) midnight toast.
Poppy
In addition to a special 3-course dinner, Poppy is opening up its bar to all comers and pouring discounted drinks. Here are the details from their promo e-mail: "Join us in the bar after 10:00 PM when all beverages are 20% off, and we will be offering complimentary bar snacks, party favors, and a champagne toast as we count down to the New Year with music tracks selected by chef Jason Stratton."
Volunteer Park Cafe
For an even more civilized approach, VPC is doing two seatings for its 2009 New Year's dinner. You can check out the menu for the evening here. $95 covers the wine and chow. Holler in the comments if they fill up and stop taking reservations.
Cafe Presse
Cafe Presse say they're doing a NYE party but provide scant details. Their sister restaurant Le Pichet is hosting a free party featuring Hill-based Head Like a Kite so maybe Presse will be featuring a band from Belltown.
Century Ballroom
I'm old but I'm not dead. I dance sometimes, even. The Ballroom is ringing in 2009 with salsa dancing. Show up early for appetizers or after 9 for the dancing.
Seattle Museum of Mysteries
The weird little museum (collection of wacky stuff) is having a party. $5 for non-members. Oh, wait, you're already a MoM member? Free for you.
