Increased crime from younger people is a direct result of constant cuts in funding for schools, social services, health clinics, family planning, and extracurricular programming. The state of Washington and the city of Seattle can’t make an addiction of cutting programs for poor and working families and expect things to get better. That’s why it’s so important that we demand the city not use $200 million to build a new jail by cutting funding from programs that are proven effective in keeping kids of the streets and out of jails.
