Timelines: Lots of transit digging around the Hill

From 2011 to 2015, there won’t be many directions Capitol Hill residents can go without running into a major transportation project. If the waterfront tunnel plan actually happens, there will be digging — for good causes — all around us. Here’s a timeline of the various large-scale transit projects on your horizon.

  • Airport Light Rail – Complete date: December 2009
This one is nearly in the can. Sound Transit says ‘end of 2009’ – assume that means December/January.
  • Waterfront Tunnel – Complete date: late 2015
The governor’s statement lays out the 2015 target.
  • University Link & Capitol Hill Light Rail Station – Complete date: late 2016
This is the biggie happening right under our feet. Detailed station calendar here.
  • Capitol Hill Streetcar: Complete date: 2016
We wrote about one plan with completion possible between 2012 and 2016. We’ll go with the over.
  • Eastlink Light Rail: 2020
Capitol Hill will be served by this light rail extension to Bellevue via its connection through downtown. Sound Transit says 2020.
