CHS Blotter: Suspicious engineer, robbery beating, recycling fire incident

Here is a look at the last week in police activity across Capitol Hill and the East Precinct. Most of the below are relatively minor incidents this week though the terrible beating involved with the reported Feb 13th robbery attempt is disturbing. Nearby, however, the murder of Tyrone Love should not go without note here.

5:48PM 1800 12th Ave Suspicious Circumstance Man is on the rooftop of a building with binoculars and a four foot “case”. Update: the man is an engineer

1:10PM 1700 11th Ave Disturbance Parking enforcement are attempting to impound a vehicle, but the owner refuses to get out

Wednesday Feb 11
1:18PM Broadway E and E Miller St Accident Two car accident with injuries
5:20PM E Seneca St and E Madison St Narcotics Activity Man walking down the street huffing fumes from a can, white male 30s

Thursday Feb 12
5:37PM E Pine and Summit Ave Attempted Theft Man with a saw is trying to steal a bike

Friday Feb 13
5:48PM 100 Broadway E Weapons Call Man with a hatchet in front of Dick’s
CHS Report – 9:30p – 1600 block E Denny Way – Robbery –
52-year-old victim said he was walking in the1600-1700 blk of E Denny Way on his way to study at the Starbucks on 15th Ave when three men approached him from behind and asked for his wallet. When he said he did not have one, victim said the suspects punched him and he fell to the ground. While on the ground, one of the men stomped on his wrist fracturing it. After the assault the suspects ran from the scene and the victim drove himself to Harborview. The suspects did not take anything from the man who suffered a broken left wrist and numerous bruises to his face. The victim, who was black, said he believe two of the suspects were white and the third was possibly hispanic.

Saturday Feb 14
CHS Report – 1:45a – 500 block E. Thomas – Property Damage – An officer on patrol noticed a dumpster fire in the recycling bin behind an apartment building and the fire department was contacted. Before SFD arrived, a resident was able to mostly extinguish the flames by pouring water on the fire from a third floor window. SFD arrived and fully extinguished the blaze but some water was inadvertantly directed into a ground-floor unit. When contacted by the firefighters, the resident responded “Get the fuck out of my apartment!” The responding officer attempted to document the damage but the resident would not cooperate.

Sunday Feb 15
CHS Report
– 8:10AM – 1700 Bellevue – Trespass – Man removed from City Market for trespassing and taken to East Precinct HQ requested to use the bathroom while in custody. Suspect then complained of stomach pains and was transported to Harborview where he was was informed he should call police dispatch when done at hospital or escape charges would be filed. No note in report of whether the suspect ultimately called.
