2 new Cap Hill businesses open beyond Broadway

Two entrepreneurs have recently hung their shingles east of Broadway and north of Pike/Pine. With all the bad news for local businesses around Seattle with this economy, it’s a good time to celebrate anybody brave enough to open up shop and go for it on the Hill, let alone brave the edges beyond the area’s larger commercial centers.

Inside The Red Chair

The first new entrepreneurial endeavor is The Red Chair Salon, freshly installed in the former DSR jewelry store on 15th Ave E near Hillside Quickie. Owner Howie Sennet says 15th Ave is a great place for his salon to call home. “All of our stylists have worked on Broadway. It’s nice to be away from it.” He is also proud of his latest accomplishment — getting the old jewelry store sign’s clock working again out in front of the salon.

The Red Chair is saying hello to CHS with a special offer. Tell them CHS sent you and receive 10% off your first service.

Hermitage

In addition to braving business in Fancy Pants Capitol Hill, the other new business to tell you about scores points in the ongoing Seattle vs. Portland battle for talented, cool people. Welcome Hermitage. Here is a note we received from owner Jennifer June:

I write to tell you a bit about my newly opened shop Hermitage, and hope you might pass this along to your readers. Relocating from Portland Oregon, Hermitage is a specialty wallpaper shop now situated near Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill.  Sharing a storefront with LiT (litshades.com), our shop is filled with print, pattern, and light.

I am also pleased to announce the launch of my new website, hermitageisahome.com.  Now people can browse through our collection of fine wallpapers from the comfort of their homes like a true hermit.

Hermitage is at 1906 East Prospect, just off 19th Ave E.

I went to The Red Chair for a haircut last week and Amy did a wonderful job. They’ve got a great location. I hope their business thrives.
