Reminder: Community Council election (plus ice cream, cupcakes) tonight at Cal Anderson

If you ever had the urge to not vote for me, tonight's your chance. I am not running for anything.

But these people are:

You can read more about their ticket here. If that kind of civic enthusiasm is appealing to you, show up tonight at Cal Anderson Shelter House between 7-8:15p and cast your vote in minutes. Learn about all the candidates here. You can also stick around to hear statements and Q&A with the candidates.

Only two slots are being contested -- president and vice president. Joining Power and Chhuor, pictured above, in those races are Charlette LeFevre, running for president, and Kami Bodily, running for vice president.

LeFevre

Bodily

LeFevre and Bodily have been working together this year on projects like the Capitol Hill Pride Festival on Broadway this Saturday and the Capitol Hill discount dollar program.

The delicious taste of civic involvement - now with salad!
The friendly folks of the recently featured ROW/Harvard Ave. Collective Garden will also be donating some locally-grown delicious garden greens.

Lucky me!
My date for tonight cancelled on me (in advance, how nice of her!), so you'll probably see me. :-)

RE: Results
Thanks for all of this!

Just curious: any way to see the vote totals? It seemed like a big turnout--how did it compare to last year?

..... congrats, and the challenges are all ahead
I could not get to the voting because of work ... but ... find the new energy exciting.

Reading the candidate statements I am troubled by a slate running all together - that seems to close the door to outsiders to the new leadership group - and "old timers", folks who were working hard on several projects - let's hope that is really not the case.

There seems to be many perspectives about this group, but, I hope it does not become another Chamber of Commerce. There area already three, GSBA, Cap Hill C of C ,and, the B I A.

The chance exists to offer another community based, not money based, action team with input and leadership and beaucoup brains to apply on issues germane to the Hill and staging some community based events..... finishing the park/garden should top the list.

Sound Transit is the largest problem/issue or potential success for the Hill.... a real challenge which will shape the future for 100 years. A giant system with 20 billion of revenue flowing through its coffers will offer challenges for a new Council.

Congrats, and good luck.

Yeah, the "running as a team" thing is unusual, but I know Jen and Hong worked together on the Unpaving Paradise thing (and did great!), so it sorta makes sense. If they turn out to be dictators (or just dicks!) we can topple 'em.

Thanks to everyone who came and voted!
Thanks to everyone who came to the elections last night - it was a packed house from 7:30 - 9pm! I hope I get to see everyone again at meetings in the next year.

2009-2010 is going to be eventful for the Hill between decisions about transit-oriented development on top of the Broadway Light Rail Station, the continued progress of the Neighborhood Plan Updates, and anything else life throws at us. We're at a point in time where we the residents can mold the shape of the neighborhood for years to come. I hope that all parties interested in this work will see the Council as a nexus for community activism in these interesting times.

RE: Thanks to everyone who came and voted!
Jennifer Power = Comrade Bunny?! Do any of the other officers have CHS accounts? (besides JoshMahar of course)... Seems like it would've been an obvious question and an easy way to get to know the candidates better BEFORE the election, but it didn't even occur to me.

Anyways... congrats to all the winners!

wtf is this shit?
Awesome, another 'group' to meddle in the 'politics' of capitol hill. there are already a couple 'capitol hill councils' of crotchety NIMBY homeowners.

So what, exactly, are these 20 somethings going to DO?

Hell I don't even know what I'm mad at here exactly, I'm happy that these kids are showing an interest in their neighborhood...in MY neighborhood for 14 years now...but seriously what's the point of this?
