Guns and iPods: Another armed robbery on the Hill

Seattle police are looking for a masked man who robbed a victim of his cell phone, iPod, backpack and wallet Sunday night around 9 PM near Seattle Central Community College. Here is the report from SPD. It’s light on suspect details so we’ll give them a call to see what else we can shake out.

Update: A SPD spokesperson provided the following suspect description information. Police are looking for a black male in his 20s, around 5’10” and 200 pounds. He was wearing a tan sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery. His face was partially covered by some type of mask or bandanna.

Armed Robber at large

On 7/19/09, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the victim was walking northbound in the 1700 block of Harvard Av. on the west side of the street, when he observed the suspect approaching him from the north. The victim stepped aside on the sidewalk to allow the suspect to pass. The suspect stepped with him to the same side and stopped.

The victim saw that the suspect was pointing a black handgun at him. The suspect was also wearing a partial face mask or black bandanna over the lower portion of his face.

The victim ran northbound to a store in the 100 block of Broadway Av E and called 911. An area check for the suspect was not successful.

The suspect demanded money. When the victim said he did not have any, the suspect demanded his cell phone, IPOD and backpack, which contained his wallet. The victim complied and gave the suspect the items. The suspect then walked off southbound on Harvard Av from E Olive St.

Police continue to seek a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred near Volunteer Park on June 29th in which a man used a gun to rob a woman of her iPod. That suspect was described as a black teenager. Meanwhile, on July 8, a woman was injured during an attempted robbery that sparked a large manhunt around Broadway in the early morning hours. A knife was used as the weapon in that incident. That investigation is also ongoing, according to the SPD.

highly unlikely. The physical description of the Volunteer Park incident was of a much smaller person, for one.
