2009 primary endorsements CHS open thread

Mixing experiments in online news and information with politics is risky but somebody has to try something new. So, we try.

The purpose of this thread is for registered CHS users to make their endorsement pitches for Seattle and King County’s 2009 primary election. If the spirit grabs you, tell us who we should vote for and, briefly, why.

If you are not registered, you may create an account to participate. If you already have an account, please log in.

No surprise who I’m endorsing for mayor considering I’m a big tree hugging, flaming liberal hippie. However, I think McGinn’s background wiht the Sierra Club and Great City does more than just give him eco cred – it shows he has a solid background in making things happen and making an organization work. Knowing how Seattle and non-profits work, he must also have a fair amount of practice listening to constituents and employees and creating consensus. After Nickels, this will be a welcome change.

McGinn, O’Brien, and Israel. We here in Seattle really need a hard push towards the future. We are falling behind other cities for livability and sustainability. While that may be trivial now, if we don’t get serious about restructuring our urban environment we will undoubtedly fail as a region.

I’m a single-issue voter this time around: we shouldn’t spend billions on a non-mass-transit deep-bore tunnel. So that means I’m all for McGinn and O’Brien. But Jessie Israel is pro-tunnel, and I’ve always liked Licata, so I voted for him. (I probably shoulda checked on his tunnel position, though.)

If you like local politics, check out http://www.publicola.net, too. The main politics blogger there are Josh Feit and Erica Barnett, both formerly of the Stranger.
