Whoa, need some respect for life. “I hope he dies.” This is really crass.

He/she, I hope they are OK.

easy there on the rage. no helmet/lights is certainly not a wise move, but no excuse to wish anyone’s death.

i suppose this was not connected to the helicopters that seemed to be buzzing the 15th area around 4am this morning. does anyone know what that was about? the helicopter seemed to be awfully low and circling for quite some time but i don’t recall hearing any sires.

How exactly did he “deserve” this? You know nothing of the incident except that there were no lights nor a helmet…that automatically makes him at fault? Goodness, you have issues.

Trix here is exactly why I hate news reports that only mention either a bicyclist not wearing a helmet or a pedestrian jay-walking. Everyone has already made up their mind: a poor innocent driver minding their own business, driving perfect mind you, and wham! An unhelmeted lunatic cyclist comes flying out of nowhere, spits on the windshield of the car, and then throws himself under the wheel of the car.

The driver could still be in the wrong but the bicyclist is still stupid for not wearing a helmet and using lights.

Sounds like you already made up your mind as well.

Thinking that a helmet will do anything to help you in a bike/car collision is dumb. They help with superficial injuries tho so always wear one!

It’s also a well lit area – and the bicyclist appears to be wearing white! Would a light have helped anything?

I see this all the time: bicyclist wearing dark clothes, with NO lights, and NO helmet. Then they get made at drivers when we don’t see them. I just want to yell at these people. Drivers do NOT WANT TO HIT THEM. Why do they make it so hard? On top of dangerous, ILLEGAL.

Seriously, I don’t care if you look dorky, put on a freaking helmet and some lights. I wear my seatbelt and turn on my car lights. Sheesh.

For all those heartless souls who saw fit to lay in on my dear nephew who was critically injured 18 months ago, and vent their spleens regarding bicyclists in greater Seattle, you should all be so very pleased to know that sweet son, brother, nephew, grandson, friend remains in a semi-vegetative state, and his family and loved ones remain in a state of disbelief and grief. Is that punishment enough for you? There is no proof Daniel was not wearing his helmet. It was never located at the scene, in his office, or at his home. There is evidence a bus may have obscured his view of the traffic light. So many things are not printed in the news account, but readers, you jumped to your own conclusions and railed against a perfect stranger, your barbs hitting innocent people in the very depths of their anguish and fear for their loved one. Callous and cruel, your words wounded already bleeding hearts. Where you might have comforted, you chose to inflict more pain. Shame, shame on you. A year and a half later, I look into Daniel’s most probably sightless eyes as he lies in his nursing home bed, a feeding tube nourishing him, my brother’s chair beside his bed where he spends almost every waking, and sometmes sleeping hour. Those of you who exercised your right to free speech to comment on this sketchy news article, think twice before you hit those keys to rage against a child of God and those who love and may lose him. If you need an outlet for your time, find it in a positive, nourishing, loving way. At least try to think where your unstrung poison arrow might strike before you let it fly.
