Early morning armed robbery on Capitol Hill could be tied to Green Lake spree

Two men were robbed at gunpoint of cash and a cell phone early this morning in the 1700 block Boylston Ave E. Seattle Police Department spokesperson Jeff Kappel said the two men were robbed by 'between 1 to 3' assailants around 12:37 AM.

The nature of the crime and the description of the suspects fits into a string of armed robberies this week around Green Lake and North Seattle, the Seattle PI reports. Hours before the Boylston hold-up, SPD says the three suspects robbed five victims near Green Lake Thursday night:


On 9/10/09, at approximately 11:25 p.m.,  a citizen was robbed in Greenlake Park followed by the subsequent robbery of four more victims who had been walking along the Greenlake path. The three suspects were wearing bandanas (sic) across their face and at least one suspect brandished a handgun during the robberies. A K-9 unit and King County Guardian 1 helicopter responded to assist.

A man was robbed of his cellphone, iPod, backpack and wallet in the same area of Bolyston on July 20. The suspect in that incident was described as a black male in his 20s. The suspect was also wearing a mask or a bandanna over his face.

What is this 'BLACK' yer all talking about? Race is as imaginary a concept as Star Trek is*. Fellow Human, Neighbors, People, Citizens, Criminals, Louts - these are the labels available, if you MUST throw labels around. Stupid labelists.

You won't find a solution in those sad stats. "..over half the murders" you quote: should I then NOT worry about the less-than-half of homocides committed by others? No, that's unreasonable. Your argument, ... isn't. May as well blame another demographic, MALES, or better yet, young to middle aged males, as it's also true that 72 year old women aren't the ones committing more than half the murders. Your stats are flawed and are not tied causally.
The problem is crime. More specifically the problems are crime prevention, lawful citizens, access to untracked firearms, a lack of active, engaging and vital activities/recreation available for youth, a lack of good parenting in young people's lives (I'd just as soon ban daycares and put 'gov'ners' on TV sets, thankyouverymuch - - you just watch how that would make a world of difference...), and most of all, arguably, we need for ethics and morality to be infused in education/child raising. Murder rates on both sides of 'more than half' would shrink. Takes a solution more complex, more expensive that mere taxes. Takes a solution more involved and time-consuming that prime time. The solution requires vigilance and committment, from all.

Let me know when you're up for the grown-up's table.

Where is the outrage?
Why don't we have beat cops? Or at least a neighborhood watch?
I hate these people for making me feel unsafe in my own neighborhood.

This has gone too far
I'm tired of feeling unsafe walking home after dark.

Is anyone in the community organizing to combat in the increase in crime, and to demand effective law enforcement?

additional robbery
there was also a robbery at Howell and Belmont approximately 2 weeks ago. a man got out of a car and stole a womens purse as she left a business. One night before that another girl had her purse stolen across from the Cal Anderson park (on the street right behind Broadway). The description was identical.

disgusted
I am sick and tired of reading about serious crimes committed by black men in our city. It is way out of proportion to their percentage of the population. Some black guys seem to think that, because of racial discrimination, they have some kind of a perverse right to criminal behavior. Kind of a handy excuse, isn't it?

This is the elephant in the room. No one wants to talk about it, for fear of being named a racist.

It is poverty, not the race in many cases, I'm sure. I don't think that someone black takes it upon themselves to commit a crime because they are black. That thought is way too simple. The only elephant in the room is the one sitting on your lap.

Typical (and predictable) Seattle liberal explanation for black crime..."poverty made me do it." Have you ever heard of personal responsibility and moral conscience? And what about the vast majority of people (of all colors) who are poor but do not commit crimes?

I guess you tried to insult me with your comment about the "elephant in my lap"....sorry, it doesn't work. When someone has an opinion different than yours, do you always respond with a personal attack, instead of debating the issue?

The PI still exists as a web site, so it is not "dead". If it was dead then the link would not work.

Are you actually trying to claim that the PI left some homicides off of their list of the homicides in Seattle in the year 2008? Just because they don't publish a print newspaper anymore???
