Man fires gun in air following Harvard parking lot dispute

A gunshot rang out on Capitol Hill tonight following an argument involving a man and a parking attendant in a lot at Harvard and E. Thomas. Report is of one shot fired into the air by a man driving a green 1993 Ford Explorer registered to an address in Kirkland. Officers found the unoccupied vehicle parked a short distance away. The suspect is described as a tall, heavyset Hispanic male wearing a baseball cap.

Spiraling violence of this type is to be expected as long as we continue converting necessary parking lots into parks in Capitol Hill. We’re parking space-scarce. Tempers will continue to flare and parking lot attendants will bear the brunt of much of this.

That’s a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, that’s a rather silly hypothesis. Gun violence is inversely correlated to parking space availability? Why aren’t more people getting shot in Manhattan and Tokyo, then?

What this is really about is cupcake and ice cream parlors, several of which have opened on capitol hill very recently. Clearly the influx of sugar has made club kids really jumpy. We need to ban ice cream parlors to put an end to this violence, once and for all. Guns don’t kill people, cupcakes kill people.

I am willing to consider the ice cream/candy store hypothesis. I have been an outspoken opponent of all these establishments. I tripped on a divot on a sidewalk near Summit & Harrison the other day and I have no doubt it was partly as a result of this massively fat chick who lives near there and is always walking on that section of sidewalk.

As for Tokyo/Manhattan – they put-in-place realistic transportation alternatives *prior* to destroying parking spaces, not after or during.

According to the police records the disturbance was actually over parking. also the victim was employed as a lot attendant.
