An even happier New Year on Broadway: Liquor store experimenting with later NYE hours

In the final hours of 2009, there will be only one place in the city to get your own bottle of top shelf cheer to ring in the New Year.

While the rest of the city is standing in line at QFC for bottles of Arbor Mist, Broadway’s Washington State liquor store will be open for two bonus hours, closing shop at 10 PM on New Year’s Eve.

Store manager Jason Skidmore tells CHS it’s part of a general move toward better convenience and customer service for the state run stores — all of Seattle’s stores will be open an extra hour until 8 PM this year.

But only the Broadway store is part of the 10 PM experiment, Skidmore says.

“It’s a trial run for us to see how well it goes.  All of the employees volunteered to stay open late and we’re interested to find out how busy we will be.”

The extended hours experiment isn’t the only one being kicked around for state liquor stores, by the way. This one might be popular, too. Top shelf.
