With Capitol Hill neighborhood coordinator retiring, city looking to hire

Capitol Hill’s Neighborhood District Coordinator Jose Cervantes is retiring in March and it’s good to hear that the City of Seattle is currently reviewing applicants despite citywide budget woes. CHS has been told the search for Cervantes’ replacement has begun but we couldn’t find an entry for the role in the city’s job listings.

You can find Cervantes most days at his office inside the Capitol Hill library branch. He’s also at many of the community meetings held across the Hill, usually doing things to help organizations get the answers and resources they need from the city. A simple example: Cervantes has been there every third Thursday of the month to unlock the doors so the Community Council can use the Cal Anderson shelter house.

More typical duties at the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Service Center include neighborhood event planning, informing the community on crime prevention and providing block watch materials and job opportunity postings for the City of Seattle.

With the growing list of questions and concerns posed to the City of Seattle lately, the person doing this job has a lot to answer for. It’s a busy job but one that Cervantes, at least, seemed to enjoy quite a bit.
