Olympia Pizza’s new lounge space ready to go, Chungee’s Drink and Eat not far behind

Pike/Pine and Broadway aren’t the only parts of Capitol Hill with new food and drink options to look forward to. We stumbled into news Saturday as we walked by Olympia Pizza and Spaghetti House III and found out that they’ve completed construction of their expanded lounge in the space formerly home to Sonic Boom on 15th Ave E. I tried to take a few pictures of the booth-lined wall and fully-stocked bar but Olympia owner Harry Nicoloudakis wasn’t having it. “You want to put this in the paper?” he asked. “Our press release isn’t ready yet.” Oh well. We’re used to it. Most places want the first images anybody sees of the inside to be shot by a professional promoter — not a journalist.

We did learn that the new Olympia space we first reported on back in June will have its soft ‘friends and family’ opening on Sunday (which I was kind of invited to before I took my camera out) and should be open for everybody on Monday. I was promised an e-mail with details on menu, hours and happy hour. We’ll update when we get it. Maybe there will be a picture of the new place in the mail, too.

UPDATE:
Hey, Harry, you forgot to e-mail CHS about the details. No bother. We see you let these guys know. Here’s the scoop:

Owner Harry Nicoloudakis says the bar will offer happy hours daily from 3-7pm and again from 11pm-1am. Spcials include $5 martinis and Manhattans and $1 discounts on house reds and whites, draught beers, and well drinks. The restaurant’s entire menu can be ordered from the bar; Nicolodakis says the kitchen is working on a new appetizer menu as well.

Chungee’s Drink and Eat
Meanwhile, we also got word via the CHS comments that another non-Pike/Pine, non-Broadway eatery is getting ready to open its doors for the people. Tom of Chungee’s Drink and Eat said the new restaurant at 12th and Denny is one final inspection away from opening:

Chungee’s Drink and Eat update:
My partner Wen and I are getting close to opening the doors to Chungee’s. We have the final inspection yet to go and some last minute details to finish up, and soon we’ll (hopefully) be part of this wonderful community! I’ve worked on First Hill for over 18 years and to be part of a business is a dream come true! We can’t wait to meet more people and if the locals are any indication of how great the area is, then we have entered heaven! See you all soon!!!

Is this heaven? No. It’s Capitol Hill.

Chungee’s, you might have forgotten, is replacing Esmeraldahome of the famous ‘Meat & 2 Sides’ meal deal. Word is that Chungee’s D&E will serve Cantonese for dine-in or take-out and will have a full — but very small — bar.

So Chungee will have Chinese food. Right on. Ever since Broadway Wok & Grill closed, I’ve missed having a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Unless there are others I’m unaware of…?

There’s always Little Shanghai above QFC at broadway/pike. It’s cheap and greasy and easily overlooked but my wife and I enjoy going there especially in the summer when you can sit on the stairs going down to broadway and watch the sea of humanity stream by…
