Police on hunt for driver who nearly hit parking cop — Plus, lost husky collared by East Precinct, community crime meeting tonight

A parking enforcement officer reported nearly being run over by the driver of a car he was attempting to ticket in the 1500 block of Harvard Ave this afternoon. Police were searching the area for the burgundy Chevy Impala that *almost* struck the officer but apparently did not cause any serious injury. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Pine.

UPDATE 3:20 PM:
Here is the SPD report on the incident. The report notes that the officer was not actually struck by the car despite earlier reports to contrary. We’ve updated our brief with the new information.

On February 25th at approximately 12:50 p.m. a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) was contacting a male suspect for a disabled placard violation in the 1500 block of Harvard Avenue.  The suspect driver fled the scene in his vehicle, almost striking the PEO in the process.  The PEO was not hit or injured.

Information about the suspect and vehicle was disseminated citywide.  Downtown patrol officers spotted the suspect vehicle in the 1500 block of 4th Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m.  The suspect was stopped, positively identified by the victim and taken into custody.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.

In other news from the streets of Capitol Hill, a large husky-breed dog was taken into custody after the wayward canine was spotted running around in traffic near East Precinct headquarters at 12th and Pine. The dog was taken inside East Precinct to wait for animal control officers. If you’re missing your husky, give the pound a call.

Reminder: Tonight is the monthly East Precinct community crime meeting with community reports and updates from East Precinct police officers. CHS will be there to report on the discussion. It’s an excellent opportunity for you to voice any concerns you have about crime in your area directly to local officials.
