Card Room investigation ends with a whimper

When police raided the apartment building behind the Wild Rose Tavern in June 2009, we learned that the bust was part of a three year investigation into after-hours gambling spots and a related drug ring distributing cocaine and methamphetamine.   Seattle Crime reports that the investigation has drawn to a close and prosecutors expect to file no further charges.

Law enforcement wastes everyone's time and money
So a big waste of time and money at a time when we can little afford it. Remember this next time you blindly laud the police for their heroism. When law "enforcement" wastes thousands of hours and millions of dollars for nothing, they're not our buddies.

RE: Law enforcement wastes everyone's time and money
I dunno who's been "blindly lauding the police for their heroism", but I'll take the bait. When I hear that the police are spending time trying to track down meth dealers, I'm happy. I'm in favor of the legalization of many drugs, but meth sure as hell ain't one of 'em.

The fact that there happened to be gambling going on doesn't impress me. Card games are really not on the list of Things That Are Destroying the Fabric of Society.

Whoa!
It is not like NO charges came out of the operation. Reading one of the linked to articles:

"Now, a year after the first meeting in South Lake Union, Reinsch, Wilson, Feletes, Anterero-Artega, and Zavala-Bustillo have all pleaded guilty or been sentenced in connection with drug deal.

Canterero-Arteaga and Fletes received five year sentences. Reinsch, the liaison between the three Honduran drug dealers and the undercover detective, received a 42 month sentence."

And I assume pleading saves lots of time and money since we avoid the cost of a trial.

Besides who can predict the future? Even if no convictions came out of the operation are we better served by law enforcement doing nothing for fear of a not perfect outcome?

RE: Whoa!
OK, I know the Probable Cause document linked above is 20 pages long, but these guys were affiliated with Honduran dope dealers that were moving kilos of coke and pounds of meth???

I agree with cindyru, hardly a 'whimper'. This isn't about some stupid after-hours gambling hall "speakeasy" that all the cool kids hang out at, this guy was associated with and helping some pretty big movers.
