Baguette on Madison open for lunch

Baguette, the roll up banh mi stand, is now open weekdays from 11 am to 2 pm at 1509 East Madison Street (where BTG Coffee once stood).  CHS spoke briefly to cashier Vanny Him (her mother is the cook), and she mentioned that they are looking to hire people – so that they can expand their hours.  We learned that the same family operates the very popular Baguette in Corvallis, Oregon.  I had a chance to try their Vegetarian Banh Mi and it was truly impressive (rivals the Baguette Box Tofu Banh Mi offering).  They make their own bread at the Corvallis shop, but the facilities at Madison are much smaller.  Still, the bread is crisp, crunchy and chewy in the center – just like a baguette ought to be.  I did not have a chance to try one, but they also have some steamed buns.  All menu items are below $5.

I’m so excited. This is exactly what I was looking for close to my house.

Can’t wait to try this out. Still, no match for 2 Tofu bahn mi’s from Saigon Deli for $2 each!

Slap some scrambled eggs and a big of cheese on one of those homemade baguettes and I’d be stopping by there on my way to work every morning.

I work downtown, so hopefully they’ll be open on weekends at some point so I can check em out.

I ate there yesterday, and the sandwiches are definitely packed with meat (or meat substitutes for the vegetarian option), in contrast to other bahn mi I have had (almost all other places) which are mostly bread.

I’m so bummed that they weren’t open this Sunday when I tried to stop by (The post says open daily, but guess it means week-daily). The craving for a banh mi was so strong I made my way to the ID for Saigon Deli’s offerings instead. Sigh.

Susan – sorry that’s what they initially told me. I have fixed the above.
