Mugging reported in Miller Park – UPDATE

Scant details tonight but CHS has learned of a strong-arm street robbery reported Tuesday afternoon near 17th Ave and E. John. You can see the SeattleCrime.com entry for the 4:03 PM report here. According to police radio transmissions, the victim was robbed by a suspect described as a black male in his 20s, wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and yellow shoes. He was last seen heading southbound on 16th Ave on foot. An immediate search of the area by police looking for the suspect was not successful. No details on what was stolen but it appears there were no serious injuries as the 911 log is clear of any medic or aid responses for that time and area. We’ll follow up when we learn more about the report from SPD.

UPDATE 4/28/2010 8:55 AM:
SPD confirmed the details of Tuesday afternoon’s street robbery and said the suspect is still at large. According to SPD, the victim in this robbery was a woman walking on E. Thomas. The woman told officers that a man ran up to her from behind, grabbed her cell phone from her hand and ran off. As he ran away, the man passed two witnesses who told police they could identify the man if they saw him again. He was described as a black male in his 20s, around 5’11” and 210 pounds with a stocky build and brown hair. The radio description also said the suspect was wearing yellow shoes at the time of the mugging. SPD says the woman suffered a minor scratch in the attack.
