Mount Olympus, 1975-1981 @ Scratchmaster Joe’s International Lounge

Joining me this week at Grey Gallery & Lounge from 7 to 11pm to DJ is Les Morely of Mount Olympus, Seattle’s only record store devoted to imports in the 1970s.

A word from Les:

“As far as Mount Olympus goes or should I say my memory. It started in 1975 and was situated on the main street of Burien. An unlikely spot, however since it was the only store devoted to imports word soon got out and it thrived.

We featured Japanese pressings on virgin vinyl along with ushering in the first wave of punk.

European prog rock , electronica and folk were our specialties. Its mail order business reached ears in the far corners of the globe.

All in all it was exciting to be hearing music direct from Europe and Asia that had never been heard.

I also did a late night radio show on KRAB in the old fire station on Capitol Hill.

Around 79 we moved to Capitol Hill upstairs in the back of The Alley. People continued to flock there until it met with untimely demise in early 1981.”

WOW – no shit Les, that is some pretty deep Seattle history.

Also joining us is m.evens, of the former 562 Crew.

See ya there!
