Pictures: Interlaken Earth Day, Blick Art ribbon cutting

More than 600 Seattle Preparatory School students are working inside Capitol Hill area parks today, Earth Day 2010.

The work crews are distributed through Interlaken (pictured here) and Volunteer Parks as well as in the Arboretum. The annual EarthCorps project helps rid the green spaces of invasive weeds and other random junk the kids find. Capitol Hill celebrates the planet again this Saturday with the grassroots Earth Day Free Dayin the People’s Parking Lot at Belmont and Pine.

Meanwhile, the newly opened Blick Art Materials celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting featuring company president Edward Ogorzaly and City Council member Jean Godden.

The new store at Pine and Broadway joins E. Pike’s Utrecht Art Supply in making sure Hill artists have the tools they need — and tempt them with a few toys they probably don’t but would be nice to have anyway.
