Club owner charged for threats against wife, baby, staff at Capitol Hill birthing center

Last week's late-night police lockdown of Group Health's Capitol Hill campus following threats against staff and a patient in its birthing center stem from a man's struggle with sobriety and his frustration at circumstances that led him to be banned from the very hospital where his wife was about to give birth, according to court documents obtained by CHS.

Paul Michael Liddane, 38, has been charged with one count of felony harassment against his wife and child and one count of felony harassment for his threats to Group Health staff. Prosecutors requested Liddane's bail be increased from $250,000 because of the danger they say he represents if released. He is currently held in jail on $1,000,000 bail. Liddane is an owner of Club Heaven in Pioneer Square

"I don't give a shit what happens. I am coming there with a gun," police say Liddane told a Group Health nurse on the phone as his wife was going into labor at the facility. "I will shoot anybody that gets in my way. I will watch my baby be born. Then I will shoot my baby, my wife, and then myself. So get ready. I hope you have some guns ready."

The nurse told police she could hear the sound of ammunition being loaded into a magazine during the Thursday, May 6th call.

Earlier in the day, Liddane called 911 to report that his wife was being held hostage at Group Health and he needed help having her transferred to another hospital, according to the court documents. Liddane told the operator he was not allowed to enter Group Health because he had threatened to kill staff. When the operator told Liddane police were not going to be able to help him transfer his wife, Liddane became enraged and said, "So what I have to do is take a gun and shoot people to get my wife."

Liddane, according to the documents, had also threatened to shoot people the day before the 911 call. According to a police report, Liddane became angry after his doctor at the same Group Health hospital would not give him a prescription for Percocet, a painkiller containing the opioid oxycodone. He threatened that he would come back with a gun and shoot staff if he was not given the drug.

According to the documents, following the 911 call, police contacted Group Health security and the mystery lockdown we reported last week played out. Seattle Police fanned out across the two main buildings of the Capitol Hill Group Health campus at 15th and Thomas and began a floor by floor search. Group Health staff reported seeing Liddane entering the hospital in security footage but the search ended without Liddane being found. A search warrant was obtained to enter Liddane's SeaTac home. Officers and a SWAT team took Liddane into custody. Back on 15th Ave at Group Health, Liddane's wife had given birth to a baby girl. Officers searching Liddane's residence did not find a gun.

It's NOT the wife's fault!
He IS arrested, didn't you read the story? And did it ever occur to you that this a normal guy, that just had a nervous breakdown? Don't blame the wife!

I think there may be a pattern here
"Liddane, according to the documents, had also threatened to shoot people the day before the 911 call. According to a police report, Liddane became angry after his doctor at the same Group Health hospital would not give him a prescription for Percocet..."

And the day before that, he threatened to machine gun a stranger for declining to give him a cigarette, and bazooka a clerk for refusing to make change.

Bob?
That's awesome that you work for him "Bob." If you work for "him," then you realize that he's not the only owner. Paul does NOT do drugs and these are people that support their families and small children with this business. Quit spreading untrue gossip and have some respect for the business end of it.

RE: Bob?
Hmmm....well if he does not use pills(do drugs) then why would he threaten to come back to the hospital and shoot people if he didn't get his percocet?????? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. When people are strung out or addicted to that stuff they will do messed up things to get what they want/need. And Bob isn't spreading gossip if it is in court documents and coming from the news, hospital, and police honey. Addiction is a disease and should be treated as such but by you getting on here and trying to defend Paul and say that he doesn't do drugs you are just enabling and adding to the problem. Obviously the guy needs some help. It doesn't make him a bad person but he needs people around him that are going to help him not ignore the problem and just add to it. He's got more important positive things in his life to get back to it sounds like, so if you want to help maybe you should get him into rehab so he can be useful to his new daughter.

crazy
this person needs some intensive psychotherapy. this level of extreme violent behavior seems to indicate a serious mental condition, perhaps schizophrenia. in any case, he does not belong in public where his mere presence can hurt the safety of others. hopefully the justice system will do the right thing.

Second Chance Blown
Too Bad..... here is a guy who, because of his anger management issues as a teenager, got a fresh start, clean slate, record esponged, etc... (Liddane is not his real name). Paully has Leached off of, and stolen from, his close peeps for 22 years. He's an alcoholic, pill poppin' idiot who has a long track record of reminders of why he shouldn't have gotten a second chance. Back to Tacoma with you to the Tillet Family hole.

Maybe it's time to look @ his Partner Justin?!?!?

Too Bad-

You are seriously a such a champ. Look at Justin? Seriously? Yeah, let's bring him into this. He's been left to pick up all the pieces, work 60 hours per week and do this on his own.....to support his young daughter. And to drag Paul's past into this and post it for the public. Awesomeness. Sheer awesomeness on your part.

Karma sucks, my friend, and actions like yours bring it on with a vengeance.

RE: Second Chance Blown
I HATE it when people use small children and families for sympathy. So what that he has to support his young daughter? SO WHAT? He had a shitty business partner that left him in this state and he should have known better than to continue business with him. That's it.

it's easy to throw stones
So it's somehow Justin's fault that any of this happened? Hardly. Justin is a great person who is trying to take care of his kid. In all of my experiences with Paul, he was a good guy as well. Anyone can have that one day that sends them over the edge. I had some of the best performances of my career at that venue, and both owners always treated me (and all of their other staff and patrons) with absolute respect and professionalism.

Unless you were there and know what any of them were going through at the time, throwing around accusations, assumptions, and judgements is foolish and accomplishes nothing. Opiate dependence is a brutal road, if you have not had friends or family suffer from it, you likely wouldn't understand the effect that it can have on your mental well-being.

I hope that Paul has gotten whatever help he needs, and that Justin moves on to bigger and better things and finds the success that he deserves for his dedicated work ethic. For those of you who want to preach and be holier-than-thou, you are wasting your breath. The club is now closed and being sold anyway.
