Ladder 10 tangles with parked jeep as Ladder 25 gets ready to celebrate 100 years of service on Hill

The crew wasn’t thrilled with the coverage — “Come on, this isn’t news,” one informed CHS — but when the fender in the bender is attached to Fire Station 25’s shiny new Ladder 10, people notice. We received several inquiries about what was going on at 14th and Pine this morning around 10. Turns out, the big red truck happened to hit a jeep parked on 14th Ave just a block from the firehouse. According to the fire department, there were no injuries and the truck wasn’t en route to an emergency at the time of the accident around 9:30 AM. One lane of 14th Ave was blocked for more than an hour as investigators took pictures and documented the scene — and the crew huddled under an overhang of The Braeburn apartments to get out of the rain. The SPD investigation is typical procedure, we’re told, when a city emergency vehicle is involved in an accident.

CHS feels bad for the Ladder 10 crew considering the pile of paperwork that will likely need to be completed. To add a silver lining in it all, this is a good opportunity to let everybody know about a celebration planned for E. Pine’s Fire Station 25 to celebrate the 100-year birthday party for trusty Engine 25. Here’s an e-mail we received from fire department aficionado Doug about the Sunday party. No, the truck isn’t 100 years old but the spirit of defending Capitol Hill’s homes and businesses against flame is. Pair a firehouse visit with the Volunteer Park Pride Picnic for a Sunday of Capitol Hill family fun. And if you see Ladder 10’s crew, tell them it’s OK. Accidents happen.

Fire Station 25 will host a party to celebrate Engine 25’s 100 year anniversary. The party is open to the public. I expect the fire buffs will be there, as will the last resort fire department, the Seattle Fire Pipes and Drums band and other fire department people.

Engine 25 is stationed at 13th Avenue and East Pine Street. They protect Capitol Hill and parts of the CD. Engine 25, along with Ladder 10, has protected Capitol Hill from its founding in 1910.

Would you please invite our neighbors to the open house for the 100th anniversary. It will be held at the station Sunday, June 13th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
