Mexican guy selling Champagne Mangos ($1 each) and strawberries ($10 for half flat, 6 pints) every weekday evening (starting around 4 pm) at 19th Avenue East and Thomas.
Eastern Washington guy Travis sells organic cherries ($3.99/lb) at the corner of 11th Avenue East and Pine weekdays and weekends
Wenatchee guy sells cherries ($3/lb) at 15th Avenue East and Mercer (Chutney’s Chaat Lounge Parking Lot)
You’ll also find fruit vendors like these around the city. CHS will be looking more deeply at this new — to Seattle — urban phenomenon soon.
I had no idea these were elsewhere in the city; the only one I knew of was the truck selling cherries over on Beacon Hill. Pleasant surprise!
Cherries were a treat from a fellow near Cal Anderson park – yummy
From Royal City – so Washington grown. yummy again.
Madison Ave around 34th in front of Broadmoor every weekend…YUM YUM YUM!
I saw a lady selling cherries at the corner of Pine and Melrose last night on my way home.
One of the few things I’ve missed from my brief stay in California is the corner vendors.
What exactly does this gentleman’s ethnicity have to do with the story? If it were a white guy, would you lead with ‘White guy selling…’? I’m sure it wasn’t intentional or malicious, but something to think about in the future!
Sorry.
…. Travis the cherry vendor is quite winsome …. on the Hill, cherry popping is a standing offer, ‘er sorta of, well a given in many instances ….
Maybe I should not post this, but he IS cute.
no, they are depicted by place in origin… as in, “Wenatchee guy…” . :p
Seadevi, that is awesome. Thanks!
Fair I guess but here’s the deal. I edited this and thought the origins element was interesting. So, it started with Wenatchee, not the mango man’s ethnicity. We are doing more on this next week so hopefully we can tell you more about these guys without getting anybody into trouble with the man.
And now I’ve had a chance to confirm with Seadevi that the vendor is indeed Mexican. Updated above.
I am headed east to get some sunshine this weekend and I am taking orders for Bing and Rainier Cherries.
Send me an email at [email protected] and we can work something out.
He totally could not be any cuter. So adorable.
This isnt a new phenomenon to Seattle. People have been selling local fruit on corners for many years – like my whole life (28).
