With the return of the Blue Angels to the city for four days, CHS comments are once again filled with objections to the jets and plenty of 'love it or leave it' support, too. KIRO's MyNorthwest.com says Seattle Police don't want 911 lines tied up with reports of loud and low flying aircraft Friday afternoon when the Blue Angels resume their practice runs for this weekend's Seafair performances:
Sergeant Sean Whitcomb says, every year, people call to complain because the roar of the jets takes them by surprise. "It might cause some rumbling, some extra noise, but it's very predictable, and it's scheduled."
So, who should you contact?
Public officials we spoke with are pointing everybody to a 'hotline' set up to handle your reports. The number? (206) 728-0123, extension 853. Only one problem: The hotline is operated by the Seafair Board.
We called the FAA district office for the Seattle area and asked if there were ways for people to contact the agency directly. Albert Atkins, inspector for the Flight Standards district in our area, referred us back to the hotline and said that anybody calling the FAA's report number at (425) 227-1389 will be referred to the Seafair board's hotline.
As cheesey at it sounds, writing a quick e-mail to the mayor and your favorite City Council members is also worthwhile. City Hall keeps tabs on this issue and, in the past, has told us that the number of complaints officially received is very low -- below 20 in some years.
And, of course, you can also contact all these officials and tell them how much you like the Angels, too. Want to see them in action? Here are five locations in the Central District for optimal viewing.
