Coming soon: New Capitol Hill festival debuts this weekend on 12th Ave

We’ll have more on this first-time Capitol Hill event later in the week but wanted to give you time to make sure you’re free next Sunday for what should be a fun — and cheap eat-packed — community event this coming Sunday. The first annual 12th Ave Festival will, among other things, feature $5 and under chow, we’re told, from an impressive list of area restaurants including actual 12th Ave residents like Café Presse, Osteria La Spiga, and Plum. Don’t want to turn this into just a foodie post, though. We’ll be interested to see how the festival feels from the cultural end of things as 12th Ave’s commercial core tries to solidify as a community. More from us on that later this week.

Sample. Savor. Experience. On Sunday, August 15th, Pike Pine’s 12th Avenue serves up the flavors of the neighborhood in its first annual street festival. Taste bites from Seattle’s most eclectic mix of local premier dining venues – affordably priced at $5 and under. Savor live music performances as a variety of buskers perform throughout the day. Appreciate the character of independent neighborhood merchants and entrepreneurs as they showcase their wares and services.

Wouldn’t it be better served to spread it out from the Block Party?

And how can something be the first annual? It is the first. The following year will determine if it is an annual event.

It just means they intend to do it every year, there’s no convention saying they can’t state their plans.

The idea of the festival first arose from the restaurants and retailers on this stretch of 12th – La Spiga, Lark, Presse, Barrio, etc. It is modeled after an Italian festival called “Ferragosto”. CHH (and others) got involved to support and sponsor because of our work in this business district through the 12th Avenue Initiative. We also made sure that biz owners on the north and south end of 12thwere fully aware of the event, and now two Ethiopian restaurants from 12th and Jefferson are signed up. Unlike Block Party, this festival is open to the community at no charge and celebrates all of the businesses on the block, trying to make people aware of the fabulous restaurants and retailers that 12th and Pike-Pine have to offer. It is just a different focus. There will be music and entertainment, but it will street-level buskers so very family friendly. Only a writer would down vote someone saying arguing over whether “first annual” is correct or not is pedantic.

Sad sad little world you live in Audrey.

Look it up. You have Internet access so you can’t complain that you can’t afford a dictionary. I’m sure you will find something else to complain about though.

Hey confused, stop being so arrogant and let it go. You are showing far too much bitterness and I suspect that you are the one who lives in the “sad, sad little world”. You ARE pedantic and I am quite sure that those who organized the events have already had the discussion as to the location as it relates to the block party. Fact is that great things are going on in that area now and 12th is sort of the center of it. The Block Party venue is not a business booster event so much as it is a private music venue mostly centered on the bar and club scene. As to being the first of the first annual, clearly you are not a business person or if you are, not a very smart one. When you operate a business or are trying to promote an idea, one should assume intent to the future and incorporate that in the idea. If you WANT it to be every year and that is the intent then you need not prove it will be every year you simply proceed as though it will be. Same with business decisions and bookkeeping.
