New principal at Stevens elementary – Plus, two school rummage sales this weekend

Here are a few notes for students headed to the principal’s office on Capitol Hill this fall — and for parents and bargain hunters who know the value of a good school rummage sale.

First, Seattle Schools has announced a new principal for the 2010/2011 school year at 19th Ave East’s Stevens Elementary:

Kelley Archer has been appointed interim principal at Stevens Elementary School. Ms. Archer has spent the past three years in the Seattle School District, working as a reading, literacy and ELL coach from 2007-2009. For the past year, she has served as a principal intern both at Stevens Elementary and at Beacon Hill International School through the University of Washington’s Danforth Educational Leadership Program. She also taught elementary education in California from 1994-2002. She received a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from California State University, Chico, and a Master of Arts in reading education from Chapman University. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, language, literacy and culture at the University of Washington. Ms. Archer is also bilingual in Spanish and English. She replaces current principal Jenniffer Reinig, who has taken a position in the Highline School District.
