Earlier this week, we documented fresh coats of paint on the Broadway Grill and the Comet. They look pretty sharp. While we’re documenting a makeover ‘do,’ might be a good time to look at a Hill makeover ‘do not.’ Neighbor JohnR first noted the 15th Ave E Key Bank’s new color back in late July:
Am I the only one who thinks that the new paint job on the Key Bank building on 15th looks like vomit?
Commenter JGL agreed:
Ugh – awful color
I was pretty excited when I saw someone prepping for the paint job the other day. However, I just passed the building this morning and saw with dismay this truly unpleasant color. I’m in full agreement, JohnR! You are not alone :)
We disagree. We think it looks like skin.
We gave Key Bank’s Capitol Hill branch a call to get the scoop. While the manager at 321 15th Ave E couldn’t tell us the name of the color used in the new paint job, she did inform us that this is the official color for all Key Bank locations and that any outlet getting an overhaul will soon be Key Bank peachish tan. The manager also had a diplomatic answer when asked if she liked the new tone. “Of course,” she said.
Looks like baby-poop.
I’ve walked by here a couple of times. Is it a nice color? No. But I’m not sure I’d call it vomit & I’ve seen much, much worse.
I’d like to think folks are projecting here. A Rorschach of sorts. i think it looks like a million bucks (at least).
they’re like the Southwest airlines of banks now. yeesh…
If that were case, building would have to be Casper ghost white
At first, I thought it was just primer.
Then circumcise it.
The epitome of micro news! Luv U, CHS!
My contribution: Harry’s Fine Foods at Bellevue Ave E and E Mercer. Allover paint covers the hack tags, but does not make the food any finer.
I think.
This is a temporary building, set there by Rainier Bank. I believe they were to build a big time building. (its placement might/may even go back to National Band of Commerce days, the old name for Rainier Bank)
Key was aggressive in the area years ago, 20 years ago or so – maybe, they bought Seattle Trust and Savings, 8-10 – branches, hence the Key Bank branch building on Madison, and then this Rainier branch….. thru some process when Rainier was sold.
Key is an ongoing New York based small size chain. The ugly non interesting cheap box on 15th has always looked like a really cheap box, horrible inside, this color is better than the surplus naval blah faded gray. Big, big site lot, a parking dream, amazed they have not re developed it over the years … retail/housing. Take a look CHH …. for 1 bedroom market rate housing units, modified box style, (snicker) would be a great location.
Several years ago KeyBank had a large condo/bank/cafe project in design review, but dropped the plan and built a similar monstrosity in Greenlake.
