Cops swarm Volunteer Park, St. Mark’s after threat with gun – UPDATE

We are still gathering details of this incident that started Sunday afternoon around 3:45 PM. We received the following tip from neighbor Rob K around 4 PM:

Volunteer park is crawling with cops. 10ish cars, everyone out.  They were at st marks as well.  Talking about victim, looking for something in bushes maybe a gun?  Two cops carrying rifles or bean bag shooters, too far to tell.

According to police radio, 911 received a report that a man threatened another person with a gun on 18th Ave E near Galer. The suspect reportedly got out of his car and had two weapons — a revolver and another rifle-type weapon. The caller said the man made threats and handed the caller a bullet.

Police were given the name of the suspect and received a tip that he had possibly fled to Volunteer Park. They were searching the area for the man and his black Volkswagen Jetta at the time of Rob’s note to us. The suspect was described as 18 years old, a white male, 6’1″, buzz cut, white t-shirt, blue jeans. He was being sought along with another man who was with him with a similar description.

Officers found the vehicle unoccupied inside the park around 4 PM and swept the park and also searched inside the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

Officers found two men matching the suspect descriptions and a female sitting near the amphitheater. As officers approached, the two men ran and were pursued through the park. Officers caught the second man but the suspect who made the threats and was carrying the guns was able to escape the park to St. Mark’s where he was finally apprehended.

Officers then fanned out across the area searching for the weapons that had been reportedly used in the threats. One weapon was found immediately and a special SPD K-9 unit trained for gun recovery was deployed near the park to find the second.

The young guy in the white T-Shirt was arrested inside the parking lot of St. Mark’s at about 4:15. He was handcuffed and being held against a car. Two cops with machine guns walked by my place on 10th Ave. afterward, clearly in “stand down” mode.

Great work – guns and threats. Crazy and dangerous.

Good work, the idiots in custody.

Real police work, and well done.

I’m so happy that Obama thinks these idiots deserve more rights than ALL lgbt couples. Oh, you heterosexuals and your privileges and your blind support for politicians who maintain those privileges…
