Family makes it out safely as fire extinguished in 100-year-old 18th Ave home – UPDATE

Fire crews raced to 18th Ave and East Denny this morning to fight flames that broke out in a child’s bedroom, according to a man who lives in the house.

The fire at 1815 18th Ave was reported just after 6:15 AM. We do not know an official cause from the Seattle Fire Department but the man who said he lives in the home told us he believes it was caused by a heater in the room that was turned on because of our recent dip in temperatures.

You might know the 1904 wood-frame structure as the home near 18th and Denny that is completely overgrown with trees and bushes giving it the appearance of a forest hutch — a 2,000 square-foot hutch, at that.

There were no apparently no major injuries. We’ll update when we learn more from SFD.

There were also several police officers at the scene on what has been a busy intersection this week. Sunday night, CHS reported on the capture of an armed robbery suspect inside a house at 18th and Howell.

I can’t believe a kid lives in that scary house. Whenever I walk by it I get a little freaked out.
