No leads in Block Party beating — Incident wasn’t reported until days later

The brutal beating across the street from the first night performances at the Capitol Hill Block Party wasn’t reported to police until almost a week after the attack, according to a Seattle police spokesperson. We reported last week on the vicious attack that happened just after midnight on Saturday, July 24th when a man was beat up by what he says was a group of five men harassing people at the corner of Pike and Broadway. The man was beaten so severely that he required surgery to repair the broken bones in his face, according to the police report on the incident.

It wasn’t until July 30 that a family member reported what had happened to the man to police and officers were able to complete a full report, SPD detective Reneé Witt told CHS. Witt confirmed that the injured man said he did have contact with police officers the night of the attack but she said it is not known if the officers were SPD or possibly off-duty cops or security guards — or if the man simply did not tell anybody what had occurred. Witt said she could find no report from the 24th associated with the incident documented in the reported taken after the man’s surgery on the 30th.

In the meantime, the search for information about the five men the injured man said attacked him continues. Here are the suspect descriptions from the SPD’s report:

1) WM adult 5’11”, tattoo on right side of neck with cursive writing about 4 inches long and ¾ inches tall, wearing a red shirt, black shorts and possibly a red hat, eyes had huge pupils.

2) Mixed-race male adult (appeared ¼ black), 230 lbs, weird hair put up in “little buns” with possibly a ponytail, wearing a blue shirt (ghetto polo style).

3) Hispanic male adult, 5’9″, average build, wearing a ball cap (color of old style Mariner’s hat) worn sidewise.

4) White male, homeless looking, wearing a black t-shirt and beige pants.

5) Unknown male.

My wife and I were attacked by several people this year inside the show. I sustained a broken nose, concussion, bruised ribs and many abrasions. My wife had minor injuries. We tried to talk to police on site but they wouldn’t listen. Security of the event was in no way helpful either. We were sent out into the streets. I was bleeding all over the place and they kicked us out into the street. I even spoke to an officer on the street and he wouldn’t take a report from me. He said I needed to go to the station. I tried to call from home to report and they wouldn’t take a report over the phone. UGH!!!
I tell you we couldn’t get home fast enough. With care from a friend in the medical profession I was closely watched throughout the night.

P.S.

Best I can tell SPD could care less about the assault that took place along with the organizers of CHBP. I will never attend this event again and will continue to seek the attention to get changes made so CHBP can be SAFE for concert goers.
