CHS spoke too soon: Week starts with early morning armed robbery in Radio Point

We knew this post was a bad idea. After a quiet week and weekend for Capitol Hill area crime, Seattle police this morning searched for an armed man who reportedly robbed a victim just before 1 AM near 17th and Pike’s City Park just off Madison.

The victim in the holdup told police he was walking near the park when he was robbed by the man who the victim said was carrying a handgun. The victim told police the man threw a jacked over the victim’s head during the hold-up so he could not get a good look at his assailant. The victim described the suspect as a black male, around 6 feet tall and wearing a grey hoodie and dark jeans. The victim said the man left on foot on 18th Ave.

The victim did not contact police until he was able to make it to a Capitol Hill apartment to make the call. No word on what was taken in the hold-up.

Police and a K-9 unit searched the area. One man matching the suspect description and wearing similar clothing was pulled over near the site of the hold-up but the victim told police it was not the same man who had robbed him. The man who was pulled over, by the way, was arrested for DUI. Another man wearing similar clothing was also detained near 16th and East Pine but we have not yet confirmed if he was placed under arrest.

This is the 11th reported street robbery in our area of the East Precinct this month. Full 2010 totals tallied by CHS are here.

Working in the hospital emergency room, we learned to never use the word, “quiet” when talking about how a night/weekend was going. It’s the curse of the “Q” word!

Sounds lie it could be the same guy who robbed someone else in the same area a while back. I live a couple of blocks away and avoid that area at night as it’s dark with little foot traffic about.
