Seattle Schools superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson can’t catch a break. The embattled schools chief is on Capitol Hill Thursday to meet with parents and the community to hear “the educational issues that matter to them,” according to the media release. But her visit coincides with a League of Education Voters, Microsoft, Boeing and other big-monied-friends-backed visit to our area by former Phoenix Suns great and current Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson speaking on… education reform. All schools publish their open house schedules far in advance, and in addition to Lowell several other schools had open house on Thursday. Therefore, the super’s office had the information available when this date and time was chosen. What better way for the super to avoid having to engage with parents than to schedule a forum opposite the much more personally important open house?
