Man says robbed at gunpoint Sunday morning in Madison Valley townhouse — UPDATE

Seattle Police responded Sunday morning after a caller reported being robbed inside his newly purchased Madison Valley home. The man told police that he interrupted two men kicking in his door around 6:30 AM. The man said one of the men pointed a gun at him as they robbed him of his wallet and cash before fleeing in a vehicle the man said he could hear leaving the scene but could not provide a description of.

UPDATE 10/11/2010 10:35 AM: We confirmed the basic details of the incident with SPD and have learned more about the break-in. According to the SPD, the two suspects attempted to pry the door of the house open before finally busting the door in to gain access. Once inside, the victim said that the men came upstairs to his bedroom, walked over to his bed and put a gun to his head, demanding money. The victim said he waited upstairs after they took his wallet and cash until he heard them leave in a car after about five minutes. The man told police his security system was not activated because he was home. END OF UPDATE.

The man told police the suspects were two black males in their 20s, one wearing a black jacket and blue jeans, the other in a grey jacket and blue jeans. The man called police about 15 minutes after the incident around 6:45 AM. Officers searched the area for the men but no immediate arrests were made.

According to King County property records, the townhouse was purchased at the end of August.

Update: Meanwhile, late Sunday night, big bursts of (probable) fireworks reported in the Madison Valley/Madison Park area.

Wow, I gotta move THERE! What’s not to like? Well, except for guys kicking in your front door and robbing you at gunpoint at the break of dawn. But except for that, charming!

This city is getting worse all the time for crime. I feel very badly for the man who got robbed. That is a very traumatic thing to have happen. Imagine if it was you, wouldn’t you just want to movesomewhere else quick to put the whole experience behind you? Well he can’t cause he just bought it. Poor Guy. Really feel badly for all those who are victims of crime more and more often with worse and worse invasions and threats if not down right physical attacks. A good city is getting corrupted quickly, like a cancer spreading. Citizens really need to address things and help one another much nore to try to prevent this CRAP!

The city is spending $10k to paint bike boxes.

Would you prefer that $10,000 be used as a bounty on the heads of “two black males in their 20s”?

Oh, and I suppose that $10k should be used to post police officers outside expensive townhomes 24/7 instead? I get it: the bike boxes don’t do anything for you, and it’s an easy thing to complain about. If we’re going to play that game, I’d suggest this: that $10k could be used to help fund permanent, stable tent city-like programs. That way, the city saves the massive amount of money spent on criminalizing homelessness (urinating in public, trespassing, drinking in public, etc). The city doesn’t spend the $100 + a night it costs to jail one person for simply trying to survive or waste officers time. Savings could go towards hiring more police officers as well as free up already existing resources to, you know, focus on real criminal behavior as exhibited above.

Is the location shown on the Google map above the true location of this incident? I ask because of the close proximity to my own home. This is a brazen, worrisome incident.

I see that the man did not have his alarm system on. Even when I am home, I have my alarm set and always have a PANIC code available. If you hit that PANIC code, the police come, no questions asked. I recommend looking into this for a quicker response time.

Be safe and look out for your neighbors.

The location we have is only the block level, not a specific address: 200 block of 24th Ave East

Block level is close enough. TOO close, if you ask me.

A few weeks ago, our dog start barking wildly when two guys matching this description entered our front yard at 6:00am. When they heard the dog, my wife saw them hide in the bushes for a minute, then they left. We live in the Volunteer Park area.

The very next day, someone broke into a nearby house on 14th and Prospect at 6:00am. This incident was reported here on CHS, though I can’t find the link now.

And here we have another 6:00am home invasion. Hmmm.
