October Capitol Hill art walk gets spooky, Scenic Drive debuts, Vis-a-Vis Society makes data art

October’s second Thursday Capitol Hill arts walk is full of tricks and, of course, treats. Here’s a rundown of some of the artful highlights you’ll find on the streets of the Hill tonight from 15th Ave East to Pike/Pine. We’ve included the official online map of the night’s festivities below. You can get a version suitable for printing here. For details on everything, check out http://blitzcapitolhill.com/ And, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’ll probably want to take an umbrella.

A beautifully creepy group show featuring Michelle Smith-Lewis, Corey Urlacher, Anita Arora

and Jessica Edwards. Encaustics, Sculpture, Mixed Media, and an Art Book Collaboration led by Jessica Edwards: “Variations on a Theme, Book 1: DEATH.”

  • Also going the spooky route, Blick Art Materials is hosting a Groovie Ghoulies Get-Together :

An Awesome Group Show put together by Artist Xavier Lopez and Curated by Alexandr, Rebecca and the other employees at Dick Blick! Artists include: Carlos Aguilar, Brandon Baker, Dave Bloomfield, Zachary Bohnenkamp, Kelly Jackson Brownlee, Cash, Maggie Harbaugh, Bunny Lee, Jesse Link, Xavier Lopez, Julie Luke, Andrew Miller, Augie Pagan, Kevin “Senseitwentythree” Sullivan and Ryan “Henry” Ward

  • Trapeze Studios and the other studios of 1520 11th Ave invite you to stop in  for photography and more:

Trapeze Studio presents “From Barcelona To El Chalten”, photographs from two continents by our own Jessie Calhoun. Her photographs capture unique detailed textures and patterns from modern and colonial decay to sweeping landscapes of the Amazon and Patagonia. Also showing will be paintings by Don Farrell and Mike Regan. This exhibit will take place for the October 2010 Capitol Hill Artwalk, Thursday, October 14, from 6 until 9 PM or later.

Other studios across and down the hall are also participating in the artwalk. Our goal is to continue to build a reputation for the 1520 11th building as a happening artwalk destination. Please join us for art, culture, wine, snacks and (!) fun at Trapeze, 1520 11th Ave. (between Pike and Pine), above the Purr Lounge…half a block north of Vermillion Gallery.

  • Office Nomads celebrates along with the art walk its 3rd birthday with a free party. Stop by 1617 Boylston to check out the space or say hi to your hard working community workspace pals.
  • 10th Ave’s Atlas Clothing entices you with the paintings of Lauren Olson:
  • Sound Transit’s community Art Wall project continues with a work from Vis-a-Vis Society, How We Came To Be Here

It’s finally happening! As you make your rounds during the OCTOBER Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk (Thursday, Oct 14th) be sure to stop by the Vis-à-Vis Society’s new ongoing graph and installation as part of the STart Capitol Hill Wall Project. From 5:30-7:30 PM, Drs. Ink and Owning will be surveying passersby and creating LIVE GRAPHS for their project “HOW WE CAME TO BE HERE.” Add your light to the constellation of data, and watch as the live bar graphs grow up to 18 feet! At 7:30 PM, the Vis-à-Vis Society will then sing and dance the evening’s findings. FREE & ALL AGES! (The Vis-à-Vis Society installation graphs are on the big red wall in Cal Anderson Park by the mountain-fountain, just North of “Boom.”) For more information visit: http://www.myspace.com/visavissociety
