Capitol Hill Halloween spooktacular 2010 trick-or-treat guide and candy forecast map

If you’re new to Capitol Hill — or your little one has graduated to official trick-or-treater status — our neighborhoods are actually a pretty great place for kids big and little to enjoy Halloween no matter what the computer algorithms say. Here’s a look at the Hill’s Halloween trick-or-treating hot spots for 2010 including the CHS candy forecast map. Kids, you also might want to plan an umbrella into your get-up.

See that freaky clown. He’s just one of the special features you’ll find in the Teen Ave East zones of Capitol Hill on Sunday. The map shows the area in darkest orange. This area of the Hill including 16th, 17th, 18th Aves East and surrounding streets is our old-school door-to-door trick and treat center of activity. Many homes are decked out with spooky displays, lights and copious amounts of dry-ice fog. And, yes, clown warning is in effect.

A few CHS Candy Hot Zone tips:

  • Be careful crossing back and forth across Aloha. It remains a busy thoroughfare on Halloween night and there aren’t stop signs between 15th Ave East and 19th Ave East in the middle of the action.
  • Parking is not advised. Consider parking in a lot near 15th and Madison and jumping on the #10 for a spooky ride up 15th Ave East to Aloha.
  • Be a polite crowd. Remember you’re walking on people’s yards.
  • Bring a camera. It’s a good show.

Trick-or-treating along Broadway should also be good times this year the Broadway Improvement Association’s efforts to draw people to the strip that is already a popular part of the Halloween night nightlife thanks to long-running traditions like the Broadway Grill costume contest (learn about that and more from Gay Seattle Scene’s Gay Halloween Guide). Want to know what that fun looks like? Here’s a view via Flickr’s ‘most interesting’ pictures tagged “capitol hill seattle halloween” from 2009. (If Flickr’s not working for you, here are some pictures we featured on the site in ’09.
