East Pine puppy collars key-toting Braeburn burglary suspect

A suspected break-in artist was arrested by police Wednesday morning thanks to the dog — and quick actions — of Capitol Hill Community Council president Norma Jean Straw. Here are pictures and an account of what went down Wednesday morning from Straw:

I caught this guy trying to sneak his way into my building at 15th and Pine just before 7am this morning. We’ve had a series of break-ins and thefts at the Braeburn over the last month and this guy fit the description of one of the suspects. We called the cops, they chased him down and searched him to find a GIANT wad of keys – many of them master and maintenance keys- to buildings all over the city. The cops took the guy down to the station about 7:30 this morning. Thanks to the officers from the east precinct for quick action and to my fellow residents at the braeburn but most of all I have to thank the doggies. I was taking my puppy out for an early morning walk when I ran into the guy and I certainly would not have been out and about at that hour (in my pjs I might ad) without the puppy :)

The Braeburn condos are located at 1410 East Pine.

We’re following up with East Precinct about the status of this guy and will update when we know more. We also have word of more commercial burglaries on the Hill today and yesterday so, yes, sorry, more crime news to come.

Makes you wonder how many copies he made/sold of those.

Yeah, the keys are the real story beyond the silly animal headline (sorry, couldn’t resist)

That’s the part that really freaks me out. By city law the landlord is supposed to change the lock on a rental before you move in. What difference is that going to make? This guy had MASTER keys. Same masters can get into any condo door too.

Too friggin scary to me to think the guy could have made copies or sold copies. How did he GET all those keys?

It has happened in the past that a postal employee (or similarly key-laden individual) has been robbed or has “misplaced” keys…

Regarding city laws, it should be noted that commenters on this blog have the right to pick and choose which laws, etc. they want to recognize or not. You can find many past posts to support this. Many will claim this is a key part of how they identify with being liberal. If you diagree, the general advice is that you should move to Bellevue because this is part of The Hill “culture.” Please back me up Curly.

Whoa there Aa – Tom was asking a question about how the perp got the keys, not about culture on the hill, how did you turn his post and question in to a move to Bellevue and diatribe about city law and ‘hill culture’. Looks like someone is trying to spar, for little reason. Tom, FYI, I wonder the same thing, probably from burglaries or Shady people selling them off.

@Aa

Please, please, please tell me you’re trolling. It makes me shudder to think that there could be people so blatantly reactive and willfully ignorant.

scarey part is, none of those keys were braeburn keys, but they were for other unknown buildings.
