Image: Ben Silverman

Seattle Fire is responding to a report of flames coming from the top of an apartment building at 1034 Lakeview Blvd. We are en route to check out the significant response.

Thanks to neighbor Ben Silverman for the picture from the scene.

UPDATE: Fire has been extinguished and fire fighters are in mop up mode. We’ll update when we hear more about damage and cause.

Thanks to Silver and Solcita and others for the calls and tips.

My heart goes out to anyone possibly losing their homes in this cold weather! (Or any time, actually!)

This was nearby my home, so I shot a couple of VR Panoramas showing the scene. I’ve posted them on my blog here:

Our apartment got awfully smoky, but the firefighters rescued me and gave me to a neighbor to take care of until you can come get me. I’m OK and it’s nice and warm here, but I miss you. The Fire Department has a phone number for me — call soon!

Ya know, I’ve lived in places with baseboard heaters for a long long time, and I am usually pretty careful leaving stuff near them. But sometimes I think… ah heck, they don’t get THAT hot, do they?

Answer: apparently they do!
