Capitol Hill #snomg Thanksgiving week 2010: Monday update

Thin coat of snow on Cal Anderson’s paths, thick coats on walkers

Capitol Hill starts its Thanksgiving week with a light crisp dust of snow on car tops, clear streets and chilly temperatures below 30 degrees — and, yes, we’re still seeing a flurry or two so things bear watching. CHS will continue to update this post as needed.

  1. I usually take the 12 from 19th to Madison/Boren but saw it was running on its snow route so I decided to walk. My bus caught up to me at Broadway, where it was supposed to turn left for its snow route, but didn’t. Rogue driver?

  2. “Snow free?” The NOAA website discussion seems to indicate the snow will be “more than less” in the next 10 hours: “THE 1 TO 3 INCH SNOW AMOUNTS ARE A LITTLE HIGHER THAN THE CURRENT MODELS ARE PREDICTING FOR THE SEATTLE AREA BUT MODEL CROSS SECTIONS SHOW VERY STRONG LIFT OVER THE AREA LATER THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS WHICH SHOULD HELP ENHANCE THE PRECIPITATION RATES AS THE SHORTWAVE ARRIVES.” We’re reading the word “enhance” here as more snow, not less.

Whatever happens, everyone should be sure to drive carefully, stop EARLY for pedestrians, and if you’re walking, watch to be a car or bus can actually stop for you.

  3. Perhaps responding to the wrong thing, but was reading this bullet point at the top of the story: “A winter weather advisory has been issued through Monday for the area. UW’s Cliff Mass says Seattle will be mostly snow-free.” Figured that meant Seattle would be snow free through Monday. Doesn’t matter! Your pics and updates are great.

  4. Justin, can you post the link for the cameras on Cap Hill that we can view? I live on the Hill but work on the East Side and would love to check in to see what I’m coming home to.

    Thanks!

  5. Photo at 2:19pm…

That’s no accident. He was clearly trying to donate his car to charity and just missed the ramp into the back of the truck!

  6. I live on the alley that truck was trying to turn onto. They hit another car with the other side of the truck too. Why they didn’t access the alley from John (where it’s more level and not as tight of a turn) is beyond me.
