trees being cut down in Vol. Park

Does anyone know why they’re cutting down trees in Volunteer Park?  I run there several times a week, and now there are 3 less trees than there were, and I have no idea as they appeared to be healthy trees.

Any pictures? [email protected] I’m not going to make it over there right away and it could help to show parks.

Here’s what I heard back:
“Our tree crews are out at Volunteer Park working on removing the holly trees and bushes. Holly are a non-native, invasive species that is also very aggressive. It is in the park’s Vegetation Management Plan to remove them. Our crews will be out again tomorrow and for several more working days after that working on getting the hollies removed.”

Good riddance. Holly is horrible and very difficult to get rid of. Birds spread it far and wide because they eat the berries. Plus, their leaves are pokey. It will be great to have them gone, and definitely hope they will put in some better trees once the mess is gone. :-)
