Less haunted house and more proletariat hangout, candlelit Grim’s debuted Saturday night on 11th Ave for a preview before its official opening on Sunday. We featured some of the ideas and names behind the latest Capitol Hill food and drink project here. Grim’s replaces Grey Gallery in the space and has transformed the two-floor set-up into a social networking-class beer hall where the pints come in mason jars and the cocktails, at a price.

to answer your question. while yes, some businesses on capitol hill are failing there are a far greater number opening; as evidenced by this local entrepreneur opening a new bar. in this time of “great recession” the hill seems to be bucking a national trend by opening store fronts and, gasp, employing people.

I’m guessing they are smelly, vegetarian businesses. Of which there are a number. Please feel free to enjoy them. The Hill is not hipster monoculture. Nor is it perfect. Deal with it. I love my ‘hood.

Grim’s is precisely the type of place the neighborhoods needs more of. Otherwise, we’d have tons of crappy bars that serve PBR and empty storefronts that drive up crime rates.
Grim’s awesome decor, great space and atmosphere gives The Hill a little needed splash of finesse. Yea chances are its not going to be your local watering hole, but its nice to know that there is a place on the Hill that offesr something …… a little more. And Hey Who cares if they were selling Hams ;)

…but that means it fits right in with the other local concept places in the ‘hood – Tavern Law, Quinn’s, even Barrio. Beautiful decor that is slick and overproduced, geared toward the moneyed hipsters who want to pretend they’re still “edgy”.

Trying to hard to be what? I don’t get why people are being so unreasonably stupid in this thread. Also, the comparison to Linda is pretty far fetched. Po’ Dog, Auto Battery and Grim’s don’t look connected in any way so why does their proximity matter? They’re three separate businesses offering a different atmosphere at each. Linda’s on the other hand, has very similar places–most of which are in close proximity to each other (Smith, Linda’s, Oddfellows) that are obviously hers.
And to clarify, I am a business owner on Capitol Hill–not an owner of any of the aforementioned businesses.
I don’t know why you think $10 and under food items are geared towards “moneyed hipsters”. Really? Moneyed hipsters? Wow.
I think we spent a total of maybe $10 for our lunch there the other day…and that included a sandwich, soup, and coffee.
If you don’t like the places you listed in your post, then don’t go to them. It’s pretty simple.
