14th and Union busy with future food + drink as Skillet Diner, craft distillery dig in

Reports of construction underway at 14th and Union are rolling into CHS — from the looks of things, work has begun on the new Skillet Diner in the Chloe building and craft distillery Oola across the street in the old bakery space.

Skillet’s work is farther along and is being documented on the blog of Josh Henderson’s wife Kelli. The picture is from her site and shows the diner space’s newly polished concrete floors. We took a peek inside the plans for the new space here. Skillet is targeting a spring 2011 opening.

Across the street, CHS contributor Staton DuBois found workers suddenly tasking at an overhaul of the old Panzanella Bakery space that is planned as a home and tasting room for new spirits craft shop Oola Distillery. We noted the seeming delay in Oola’s buildout in our recent post about progress for the Sun Liquor Distillery project on East Pike. The work right now is limited to the outside of the building but the crew told us that internal work should begin soon. We’ll drink to that.

I rode by there yesterday and it looks almost done! There are condiments on some of the tables and it’s looking pretty good. :-)
