I’m literally still in shock. It was so scary to watch… The sounds was horrible. He was alert and awake… he was bleeding pretty bad though.

For some reason the stoplight cycle at Pine and Harvard is VERY long and this encourages many people (myself included) to cross against it. I haven’t timed the cycle but it seems like two minutes or more between greens, and pressing the “walk” button doesn’t hasten it. The wait really should be shortened to one minute or less, at least if the button is pressed.

I think the City timed it long to try and move more traffic uphill to turn onto Broadway and also go straight further uphill on Pine. Per usual with anything traffic SDOT touches, they have the green light coming before the red one so all they do is create bottlenecks, blocked intersections and in this case a sense of false security for folks who occasionally cross against the light.

Hope the pedestrian is ok

If you are crossing against the light you may not be asking to get hit but you are totally upping your odds of that happening. It’s frustrating that cars are expected to follow the rules of the road but pedestrians and bikes try to circumvent these same rules. If I’m stopped in my car at a red light and it looks like no one is coming I don’t run the red light because I have to wait an extra minute. Pedestrians, please do the same. I walk and drive regularly. I have had many close calls with pedestrians while I’m driving. Ironically, when I’m the pedestrian I have not had any close calls with cars.
